We’re highlighting five creators who have discovered new and exciting ways to incorporate flowers into their work. A common thread among these talented artists is their willingness to play, imbuing each of their bodies of work with a sense of childhood wonder. This shared theme brings freshness and the feeling of experiencing a “first” again. Their respective mediums and styles, combined with their use of flowers, stand as an invitation to experiment while inadvertently spreading that flower feeling.

1. Song Seulki / Auber - Photographer/Artist

Song Seulki, also known as Auber, is a visual artist we discovered through Instagram. Her work transports us back to the innocence of childhood, where flowers were essential ingredients in our potions and play. Auber reminds us that flowers possess a certain magic in all their forms of display. There's an undeniable creativity and childlike spirit that springs forth in the way Auber plays with flowers. The ephemeral nature of her work also speaks to the life cycle of her material, yet she manages to grant the flowers a sort of eternal life by capturing them in beautiful images. Her portfolio showcases a consistent theme of flowers and the natural world, presenting them in unique ways that have us reimagining the possibilities flowers truly hold.

2. Bobby Beasely - Photographer - @bobbybeasleys

Photographer Bobby Beasley's style and unique eye offer the viewer a sense of wonder, charm, and play, taking us back to childhood, when colors seemed brighter and perspectives were newer and fresher. His eye captures flowers in ways we don't typically see, which makes his work so inspiring. It's evocative art that encourages the viewer to turn up the saturation on everyday life and witness how vividly the scenes come alive. In the highlighted image, there is a particular sense of being a bug in the soil, observing the moment. It’s quite transportive. The prominent role flowers play in his work serves to emphasize that flowers are everlasting, as long as we love looking at them. Bobby uses flowers as a motif in his photos fairly often, which leads us to believe he's a flower lover — or a lover of those who love flowers. A reminder that that flower feeling is felt either way!

3. Katerina Shukshina - Artist/Designer @shu_katerin

Katerina Shukshina is a designer and visual artist who blends fashion with the natural world, creating ephemeral pieces that often incorporate flowers. Her designs span from skirts made of sunflowers to outfits constructed of dandelions and shoes fashioned from lush peonies or lilies. Her creations are pieces you’d only dream of wearing; they are fairy-esque and whimsical, bringing in those themes of childhood once more. Katerina does a beautiful job of showcasing the possibilities present in flowers, with their versatility on full display. 

4. Maurice Harris - Floral designer/artist - @bloomandplume

Maurice Harris is the founder of Bloom & Plume, a floral design studio. He has designed installations for major brands and celebrities like Beyoncé (featured in her visual album Black Is King). He also created, hosted, and executive produced the show Centerpiece. Today, we’re highlighting Maurice’s work on social media @bloomandplume. He gives flowers to people in parks and outside cafes, recording these interactions in a way that feels neither staged nor stiff. His authentic and engaging disposition when approaching people truly pulls you in, making you want to see how the interaction unfolds. He asks thoughtful questions of the flower recipients, allowing us to see them and, in turn, perhaps ourselves. He’s doing incredible work giving back to the community, spreading kindness, and most importantly, reminding us to give those around us our attention—to talk, engage, and maybe even offer them some flowers.

5. Mia Wanaka Brimilcombe - Artist - @miaaawb

Mia is an artist who showcases the limitless potential of materials, a sort of magician with a table of a few things that transform into something mystical and beautiful. She creates garments and accessories, experimenting with a wide variety of materials like algae and toy parts. While prepping to write this article during a late-night scroll, I found her video of a unicorn made of soft pink rose petals, and I thought, what a unique and wonderful way to use flowers! It was a moment of pure whimsy that stopped me mid-scroll. Her work embodies that childlike sense of possibility—the belief that anything can become something beautiful if you approach it with imagination. Mia's art is a gentle nudge to look at the materials around us with fresh eyes and remember that there is always room for a little more magic. It's yet another reminder that there truly is no wrong way to bloom, and no limit to the ways we can just add flowers.

These artists serve as a reminder that our creativity shapes our experience. Flowers are an extension of that creativity, as we select which ones to have, where to place them, and who to give them to. Flowers continue to remain popular year after year because of their universal beauty, but these exceptional artists have found a way to take that beauty to the next level by adding their human touch to the next life phase of the flower.
